Press Release: Inside Hack STEMAIDE 2025 — Young Innovators Build Real Solutions in Just One Hour

The Hackathon that Showcased Ghana’s Next Generation of AI and Robotics Talent

Accra, Ghana — November 2025.
STEMAIDE has marked a major milestone in Ghana’s innovation journey with the successful launch of its first-ever Hack STEMAIDE AI & STEM Hackathon during the 2025 Ghana Digital Innovation Week (GDIW). Hosted at the Accra International Conference Centre, the event brought together more than 60 young innovators who formed eight teams and built functional AI and robotics prototypes within one hour.

Guided by the theme “AI for Impact: Local Problems, Smart Solutions,” the hackathon gave students, recent graduates, and young professionals the chance to apply STEM knowledge to real problems facing communities in Ghana. The atmosphere was energetic as teams brainstormed, tested sensors, wrote code, and assembled components using the STEMAIDE Learning Kit.

High-Impact Prototypes Built During the Challenge

In just one hour, all eight teams produced working solutions addressing challenges in agriculture, public safety, energy use, accessibility, and smart city development. Their prototypes included:

  • Smart Irrigation System that adjusts watering based on sunlight and water levels

  • Plant Light Tracker that follows the strongest light source

  • Smart Streetlight System triggered by ambient light changes

  • Motion-Based Room Light Controller to cut down energy waste

  • Smart Intruder Alert System for farms and homes

  • Smart Traffic Safety Signal that responds to vehicle presence

  • Gesture-Controlled RGB Lamp for simple, contactless control

  • Smart Walking Aid that supports visually impaired users with obstacle detection

These solutions showed a clear understanding of Ghana’s development needs and highlighted the technical potential of young innovators when given the right tools.

Celebrating the Winners

A panel of judges—Alvin Cudjoe, Claudia Twum, and John Ofori—evaluated the projects based on creativity, execution, functionality, and impact. The winning teams were:

  • 1st Place: Smart Intruder Alert System — Prize: GH₵ 2,500 + souvenirs

  • 2nd Place: Plant Light Tracker — Prize: GH₵ 1,500 + souvenirs

  • 3rd Place: Smart Irrigation System — Prize: GH₵ 1,000 + souvenirs

  • Honourable Mention: Smart Walking Aid

1st Place: Smart Intruder Alert System

2nd Place: Plant Light Tracker

3rd Place: Smart Irrigation System

All participants received certificates recognizing their creativity and effort.

Why This Hackathon Matters

Hack STEMAIDE stood out as the first fully hands-on hackathon featured at GDIW. Rather than watching demonstrations, participants built real solutions from scratch. This event reinforced the importance of practical technology education for young Africans, especially in an era where AI, robotics, and STEM skills drive new opportunities.

“Hack STEMAIDE isn’t just a competition. It’s a platform for young inventors and a channel for job creation,”

Prince Boateng Asare, CEO of STEMAIDE Africa.

“We wanted to show that Ghanaian youth can build real technology when given access to the right resources,”

Adoma Nyarko, Head of Marketing & Business Development.

A Look Ahead: Hack STEMAIDE Nationwide Roadshow (2026)

Encouraged by the strong outcomes of the 2025 edition, STEMAIDE will launch a nationwide series of hackathons across all regions of Ghana next year. Regional winners will compete at the flagship Hack STEMAIDE event during GDIW 2026.

The Roadshow aims to:

  • Develop a strong pipeline of young innovators

  • Strengthen national capacity in AI, robotics, and digital manufacturing

  • Help participants convert prototypes into real businesses

  • Prepare youth for the future of work

“Innovation always starts with a spark. Hack STEMAIDE helps that spark grow into something bigger,”

Bennistar K.K. Cobbah, Community Engagement Lead.

Partners Wanted

STEMAIDE is calling on corporate organizations, foundations, government agencies, and technology companies to partner in expanding the initiative. Support from partners will help fund regional events, provide resources to students, and scale the impact nationwide.
